see that I'm a working girl, too.
My Mema wanted Momma to get some corn so we can freeze some for
our winter meals. Mema used to do five bushels at a time back in the day.

to get every little silk out of the rows of corn.
As you can see, Mema loves to put up veggies. When Mary (my Gma) was young and living at home, she and sisters Carol and Becky (my momma) were assigned the tasks of shucking and cleaning, then cutting it off the cob. They also put up every thing possible that would fit in jars. Even the huge crocks were filled with stuffed banana peppers (cabbage mixture that makes our mouths water just to think about it) were covered in a salty/apple vinegar brine to "work" away before they were canned. At the end of the harvest season, we loved to look at all the beautiful rows of colorful foods just waiting for every one's dinner. Tomatoes, veggie soup, green beans, jellies and jams.......boy, those were the days, so I'm told.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer and getting ready for the fall harvest.
Hope to hear from the rest of my siblings.

Bonnie,
You look like such a good little helper! Mr. H helped me with canning tomatos but that was all. I freeze my corn and when Pete and I make chili or any other kind of soup I freeze that too. A friend asked me if I wanted pickle cucumbers and I had to say no. My grandmas used to can pickles and bread and butter and lime pickles are my favorites. I wish I could make them but I never got into the pressure cooker. We are lucky to have such good little helpers and I must say you a very beautiful little girl! Mr. H's Mom
I love Bonnie's sweet face, she looks like my Sophie did when she was that age. Didn't we see Bonnie traversing the snow with her favorite toy this past winter? Gotta love those Midwestern girls, human and canine! We canned green beans today and made peach pies to freeze and some peach preserves, the cocker kids loved that! Tomorrow is making tomato sauce and freezing zucchini,
thank goodness Sophie is here to boss everybody around! We love, loved, loved the tomato pie Mary!
Cathy and her mini mob, Sophie, Bella, Bailey and Tucker who has been a good boy for 6 days in a row!
What a little helper Bonnie is, our mom said she would love to hear some of memas harvest stories, what a special lady.
Our mom did up string beans, corn and tomatoes this year,it has been a few years since mom's done canning and freezing. We mostly wrestled around on the floor while Jasper stayed close in case something fell on the floor, he says we are too little to help yet, Matty did get into the bag with the cut corn cobs but mom was quicker than he was. There is nothing like your own veggies in the winter. Happy Harvesting!
